German cities expect property prices to rise further

Property prices have risen in nine out of ten cities.
Property prices in Germany continue to rise. In a survey published by the German Association of Cities on Monday, more than four-fifths of the 71 cities surveyed reported that property prices would continue to rise in 2018. In twelve percent of the cities, stable prices for land, apartments, and houses are expected.

High Demand

Only seven percent of municipalities reported a decline in prices. Apartment prices have increased in nine out of ten cities. “The survey results show that the supply of residential real estate on the market is still lagging behind the high demand,” said Helmut Dedi, CEO of the German Association of Cities. He therefore called for a “long-term, continuous, and cross-agency housing policy for broad sections of the population.” Only then could a turnaround be possible. However, this year cities mostly expect further price increases.
